Parents as  Teachers  (PAT)

Parents are their child's first, and BEST, teacher!

Mother and Son

Coastal Family Partners is proud to be an affiliate provider of the global Parents as Teachers model.

The Parents as Teachers Program (PAT) is a comprehensive approach to early childhood development. We work with parents to help them learn more about the unique development of their children and to sharpen any parenting areas they may be interested in.  By partnering with us, you’ll have access to tools and resources that will help your child succeed in school and beyond. We also offer early detection of developmental delays and health issues and regular opportunities to meet other parents.

What can I expect?

In PAT, a trained Parent Educator will visit you once or twice each month to provide parenting and child development information based on your interest and needs. The Parent Educator will also help you create, and reach, many goals throughout your time in our program. Don't want a vist in your home? We also deliver personal visits in public settings like parks, the library, and our office.

But, I want to know more about Parents as Teachers....

The national Parents as Teachers website lists the following seven goals/outcomes unique to the PAT home visiting model:

  1. Increase parent knowledge of early childhood development and improve positive parenting practices

  2. Provide early detection of developmental delays and connection to services

  3. Improve parent, child, and family health and well-being

  4. Prevent child abuse and neglect

  5. Increase children’s school readiness and success

  6. Improve family economic well-being

  7. Strengthen community capacity and connectedness
